Greg Bean
Golf Course Superintendent
***********************************************
Greg
Bean's career in golf course work started at the age of eighteen
as a member of the Orleans Country Club grounds crew staff. After
graduating from high school Greg attended college where he earned his
associates degree in science. Greg continued to work on the grounds
crew at Orleans, while in college and after, through the winter of 1994.
In February of 1995 Greg attended winter turf school at the University
of Massachusetts at Amherst,
and shortly after that took his first
Superintendent job at a nine hole private club in New York. Greg
returned to Orleans Country Club as the assistant Superintendent to
Rick Hoyt in 1996.
Greg took over the duties as Superintendent at Orleans starting in the
spring of 2001. Over the years Greg, Rick and the staff have brought
many positive improvements to the course including: the construction of
new greens and tee boxes, the addition of new sand bunkers, the
installation of a new irrigation system and pump system, and the
enlargement of the irrigation pond behind the 15th green.
Greg is an active member of both the Golf Course Superintendents
Association of America and the Vermont Golf Course Superintendents
Association. Greg is also a member of the Sons of the American Legion.
In
addition to his work with the golf course Greg is also an accomplished
golfer on the course. Greg represented Orleans with an impressive top
twenty-five finish in the 1998 Vermont Amateur which was held at
Orleans. He has also been a consistent contender for the Orleans Men's
Club Championship, and has won 3 of the last 4. Greg lives in Newport
with his wife Kirstina and their two boys, Chandler and Jacob. |

Bean, President VGCSA

the national Golf Course Superintendents Association of America
The OCC board of directors would
like to recognize
Greg Bean for his appointment to the VT Golf Course Superintendents
Association
as President. This appointment allows Greg to network with other
superintendents and sales representatives, which keeps him current on
new products and techniques. By furthering his education, Greg also
earned his national Class A superintendency status this year. Orleans
Country Club appreciates greatly his professionalism and
continuing education in the science of golf course maintenance.
