One hundred and sixteen golfers, wearing pink, descended on Orleans Country Club Sunday, June 28th for the 26th anniversary of the Annual Monique Dudley Memorial Golf Tournament. Five thousand dollars was raised for the Vermont Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

There were over 65 donated silent auction prizes and sponsorships, with all proceeds from the tournament going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in memory of Monique. The pink ribbon sponsors: Collette Plumbing and Heating; Ellen Grimes of Williston and Horace Archer, PGA pro provided three great items for the auction. The Vermont Castings Cresent Classic electric fireplace, “Welcome Home” queen size quilt in memory of Nancy Steed, and the Sun Mountain golf bag brought in $1100.

Jon Lussier, OCC's 2008 Club Champion and Nate Guyette, assistant pro to Horace Archer were here to drive for the "11th Hole Advantage," which raised an additional $584.

Special recognition goes to Greg Bean, OCC superintendent, along with Rick Hoyt, assistant superintendent, and the greens crew, who made sure there was a competitive golf course in pristine condition. Frank Coulter was a tremendous assistant to the committee before and after the tournament and also manned the 8th hole "double your pro shop credit by landing on the green" opportunity. Jane Horton, and the landscaping crew worked long hours beautifying the gardens and provided beautiful perennial floral arrangements around the course and clubhouse. Additionally, Huz Joseph, Darryl Davis and Paul Racine made repairs and painted around the ladies locker room in time for this exceptional day. Memphremagog Press designed an inscription for wine glasses used as table favors. Angel Wright and her professional staff of the Tee Off Restaurant set up a beautiful dining room and provided the players with a delicious luncheon. Centerpieces of pink annuals decorated the tables along with balloons donated by Blooming in Barton. The committee especially appreciates Robin Robinson's assistance to Horace Archer with the difficult task of scoring.

In addition, the committee would like to wish Gabrielle Renault well with her goal to raise $2500 for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer to be held in New York City in October. She will be walking 39.3 miles in two days. To help her reach her goal she has made a quilt and was selling raffle tickets in the OCC lobby following the tournament.

The committee truly gave their best effort to make the 26th anniversary an extra special day! Committee members and assistants are Terry Dudley, Irene Farrar, Carol Boucher, Joyce Oeschger, Karen Bennett, Debbie Vacca, Kirstina Bean, Judy Hoyt, Jane Horton, Judy Tinker and Judy Martel.

FYI

The Monique Dudley Memorial Golf Tournament Committee would like to share some facts on a rare, but serious disease known as inflammatory breast cancer whose symptoms are unique.
A concerned OCC member originally brought this to our attention with the first video link below. Our committee felt providing education on our web site was a beneficial way to take action.
