$4500 Raised for the Susan G. Komen Foundation at Orleans Country Club

Ninety Six golfers, wearing pink, descended on Orleans Country Club Sunday, June 27th for the 27th anniversary of the annual Monique Dudley Memorial Golf Tournament. $4500  was raised for the Vermont Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

There were over 60 donated silent auction prizes and sponsorships, with all proceeds from the tournament going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in memory of Monique. The pink ribbon sponsors; Brent Kinsley of Irasburg; Ellen Grimes of Williston and Mike Vinton of East Charlestown, provided three great items for the auction. The fall landscape painting, queen size quilt made in memory of Ellen's best friend Nancy Steed, and a pink folding Adirondack chair brought in $750.

Jonathan Dudley (Monique's son) and Jon Lussier were here to drive for the "11th Hole Advantage," which raised an additional $465. Jonathan lives in Greensboro, NC and is the Director of Programming for the Triad Youth Golf Foundation of the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour. Jonathan has a deep bond with family and friends in the NE Kingdom and prioritizes his schedule to be here for his mom's tournament. Jon Lussier is presently attending Newberry College in Newberry, SC. Jon and his brother Nick just won OCC's Charlie Scott Best Ball Tournament and will compete in the VT Men's Amateur.

Special recognition goes to Greg Bean, OCC superintendent, along with Rick Hoyt, assistant superintendent, and the greens crew, who made sure there was a competitive golf course in pristine condition. Frank Coulter was a tremendous assistant to the committee before and after the tournament and also manned the 8th Hole "Double your Pro Shop Credit by Landing on the Green" opportunity. Jane Horton, Joyce Oeschger and the landscaping crew worked long hours beautifying the gardens and provided beautiful perennial floral arrangements around the course and clubhouse. Emily Maclure and her professional staff of the Orleans Country Club Restaurant and Lounge set up a beautiful dining room and provided the players with a delicious luncheon prepared by Chef Travis Casey. Centerpieces of pink annuals decorated the tables along with the table favors, which were a pair of "Playing for the Cure" socks and awareness ribbon souvenir bag clip cleverly arranged to look like a rabbit. The committee especially appreciates the assistance given to Horace Archer by Cori Shimko and Ernie Lord with the difficult task of scoring. Horace Archer, PGA pro made the day extra special when he donated all proceeds from the "Land on the Green-Double your Pro Shop Credit" event and the Cleveland Golf Club raffle totaling close to $600.

The committee truly gave their best effort to make the 27th anniversary an extra special day! Committee members and assistants are Terry Dudley, Irene Farrar, Carol Boucher, Joyce Oeschger, Karen Bennett, Judy Hoyt, Jane Horton, Judy Tinker, Judy Martel, Bev Gage, Wendy Leithead and Mary Ann Silvester.

FYI

The Monique Dudley Memorial Golf Tournament Committee would like to share some facts on a rare, but serious disease known as inflammatory breast cancer whose symptoms are unique.
A concerned OCC member originally brought this to our attention with the first video link below. Our committee felt providing education on our web site was a beneficial way to take action.
