One
hundred and four golfers wearing pink descended on Orleans Country Club
Sunday,
June 29th for the 25th anniversary of the Annual Monique Dudley
Memorial Golf
Tournament. Five thousand dollars was raised for the Vermont Affiliate
of the
Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Despite a very unfavorable
weather
forecast, it turned out to be a spectacular day!
There
were over 70 donated silent auction prizes and sponsorships, with all
proceeds
from the tournament going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in memory of
Monique. The pink ribbon sponsors; Ethan Allen, Orleans division;
Collette
Plumbing and Heating; Jay Peak and Bob and Mary Ann Silvester provided
five
great items for the auction. The Ethan Allen chest, vent free gas
fireplace,
luxurious golf bag and 4 rounds of golf at Jay Peak brought in $1000.
The Tee
Off Restaurant staff; Angel Wright, Chelsey and Shelly Abbott, Gigi
Poginy and
Carlene Lanoue also donated their tips in honor of this special
anniversary
year.
Monique's
son, Jonathan Pike Dudley was here to drive for the "11th Hole
Advantage" which raised an additional $522. Jonathan now resides in
Greensboro, North Carolina and is currently directing a youth golf
foundation
while playing professional golf part time. The foundation creates golf
opportunities for kids from 6 to 17 years of age. Daniel Belanger,
Monique's
brother, initiated a challenge to the field to allow his nephew
Jonathan to
shave his head in a show of support for cancer patients and their loved
ones.
This raised an additional $200 towards the tournament final donation
amount.
The
beautiful commemorative granite plaque in memory of Monique Rose
Belanger
Dudley presented last year by Daniel Belanger now has all the yearly
tournament
winners engraved. The plaque is prominently placed at Orleans Country
Club in
the entranceway thanks to Huz Joseph who designed and built an
attractive
supporting shelf to protect it.
Special
recognition goes to Bob and Mary Ann Silvester, OCC's golf pro and his
wife for
their tremendous support and for the valuable help from Charlie Ginnett
and
Frank Coulter. Greg Bean, superintendent, along with Rick Hoyt,
assistant
superintendent, and the greens crew made sure there was a competitive
golf
course in pristine condition. Jane Horton, and the landscaping crew
worked long
hours beautifying the gardens and provided many beautiful perennial
floral
arrangements around the course and clubhouse. Additionally, Rose Harper
hung up
new shades on the porch in time for this exceptional day. Memphremagog
Press
designed a banner and distinctive anniversary tee block markers. Missy
Dever from Competitive Computing out of Colchester updated all of our
sponsor signs. Angel
Wright
and her professional staff of the Tee Off Restaurant set up a beautiful
dining
room and provided the players with a delicious luncheon. Centerpieces
of pink
annuals decorated the tables along with birdhouse table card holders.
Mary Ann
Silvester worked with the committee to obtain table favors, pink golf
towels
commemorating the 25th anniversary. In addition, Daniel Belanger,
Brad and Jonathan Dudley donated 25th anniversary magnets with the OCC
logo and
pink ribbon. Each participant also received a vitamin E stick from
Rozelle
private label cosmetics and Huz Joseph. Cori Shimko and Jonathan Dudley
provided a delightful slide show of the day's happenings during the
luncheon.
The
committee truly gave their best effort to make the 25th
anniversary
an extra special day! Committee members are Terry Dudley, Irene Farrar,
Carol
Boucher, Joyce Oeschger, Karen Bennett, Debbie Vacca, Kirstina Bean,
Judy Hoyt,
Pam Downer, Ginger Pierce and special extra assistance from Judy Tinker
on the
day of the tournament.
